  • Provenance: Cataloguer's Note:
Ito Yuhan (1882–1951) was a Japanese printmaker associated with the Shin-hanga movement, best known for his tranquil landscapes created during the 1930s. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he omitted the traditional black key block, giving his woodblock prints a soft, atmospheric quality that often resembles watercolor washes. His subjects typically feature iconic sites such as Miyajima, Lake Biwa, temples, pagodas, and seasonal landscapes, all rendered with delicate gradations of color that convey a dreamy, poetic mood. Though not a prolific artist, his works—such as Misty Moon at Miyajima—are prized by collectors and have fetched notable prices at auction, sometimes exceeding $1,500. Today, Ito Yuhan is celebrated for his subtle palette and serene compositions, which stand out within the Shin-hanga tradition for their quiet elegance and refined simplicity.
