c. 1668-1868, Japanese
The blade was created by Ozaki Suketaka, one of the most prominent master swordsmiths of the Osaca Shinshinto (late Edo) period. Known by his civilian name Gengoemon, Suketaka was celebrated across Japan for his dramatic, rolling wave-like temper lines (toranba). Dragon in high relief metal sleeve (kozuka) showcases a brilliant example of high-relief master carving. It depicts a traditional Japanese dragon charging downwards through dense, swirling clouds.
The traditional Japanese Katana sword features an artistic, nature inspired design of ornate rich and heavy gold overlay, depicting autumn insects (crickets / mantises), a butterflies, and arrows. The guard (Tsuba) features a dark, flower-shaped metal detailed with gold cherry blossoms and a side slot. The handle is wrapped in a traditional diamond-patterned brown cord over genuine textured rayskin. Collar (Fuchi) features multi-colored metallic carvings waves. The part of a Daisho set, a matching companion similar sword of a shorter length with same gold decor. Also a fully marked with Japanese writing hidden knife with dragon carvings on the handle.

Items to be picked up by the buyer or agent for the buyer must be picked up within 10 calendar days following the auction.

Pick-up hours are M-F 10:30am to 4:30pm (EST). Items not picked up within 10 days will be placed in storage at a fee of $10.00 per item per day. All international customs, duties, and other tariffs are the responsibility of the buyer. Akiba Galleries and all third party shippers will declare the selling price as the value in all cases. In the event a purchased item cannot be delivered in the same condition as of the time of sale due to damage, theft, loss or mis-delivery Akiba Galleries Jr. LLC shall not be liable for any amount in excess of that paid by the buyer.
