A gilt bronze carving of the bust of Cleopatra sculptor Paul Gagne (French, 19th century). Finely carved detail with affixed pendant earrings. Marked P Gagne on back in stylized text. Marked on side of shoulder "Nitocric Reine de Babylone".

    Paul Auguste Gagné (French, 19th century) – A French sculptor active in Paris during the late 19th century, Gagné was known for his finely detailed bronze works, often cast using the lost-wax method. His notable pieces include the Queen of Babylon bust (circa 1875) and an Egyptian Revival garniture set featuring a gilt bronze mantle clock and candelabra (circa 1875). Gagné exhibited at the Paris Salons from 1865 onward and was the brother of painter Jacques Gagné, also known as Jules Gagniet.

  • Condition: Overall good condition. One earring damaged. Sticker residue on back. Minor wear and tarnishing occurring.

Items to be picked up by the buyer or agent for the buyer must be picked up within 10 calendar days following the auction.

Pick-up hours are M-F 10:30am to 4:30pm (EST). Items not picked up within 10 days will be placed in storage at a fee of $10.00 per item per day. All international customs, duties, and other tariffs are the responsibility of the buyer. Akiba Galleries and all third party shippers will declare the selling price as the value in all cases. In the event a purchased item cannot be delivered in the same condition as of the time of sale due to damage, theft, loss or mis-delivery Akiba Galleries Jr. LLC shall not be liable for any amount in excess of that paid by the buyer.
