Georgian Louisa Courtauld & George Cowles Sterling Silver Ink Stand
19th Century, England.
A fine 19th century English sterling silver inkstand, bearing the maker's mark of Louisa Courtauld & George Cowles, London. The stand is executed in an elaborate Rococo Revival style, featuring a richly cast and pierced border with scrolling foliate ornamentation and shell motifs, all surrounding a shaped tray with a highly polished surface. The set is fitted with three lidded urn-form inkwells, each adorned with draped garland decoration and topped with finely detailed finials. The central inkwells is raised on a pedestal base. The underside of the piece features the stamp of the maker, as well as the hallmarks for the material, 925 Sterling Silver, and the city in which it was made, London. Additionally, the center of the underside has the engraving for the owner, "Mae C. Plant 1918." Total Approx. Weight: 2,270 Grams

Maisie (Mae) C. Plant, was an American socialite whose husband Morton F. Plant traded the family mansion at 653 Fifth Avenue plus $100 in cash to Pierre Cartier in 1917 in exchange for a 128-pearl double-strand necklace.

Pick-up hours are M-F 10:30am to 4:30pm (EST). Items not picked up within 10 days will be placed in storage at a fee of $10.00 per item per day. All international customs, duties, and other tariffs are the responsibility of the buyer. Akiba Galleries and all third party shippers will declare the selling price as the value in all cases.
